August 24th and 25th

As one of 12 kids, Tim Bowman needed a way to stand out – and he found it, picking up the guitar at age 11. Bowman admits he was inspired by a guitarist who performed each week at church, and it was the church who helped him develop his talent: Bowman asked the pastor to pray for him in helping learn the instrument and he says it worked!

Bowman’s first major gig was playing with gospel superstars The Winans. He later served as their musical director, but after several years, decided to take a break. He was only playing guitar as a hobby, but his wife encouraged him to record an album – which eventually found its way to a Detroit radio station. Within five weeks, a thousand copies had been sold locally and the major labels came calling. Since those early days, Bowman has established himself as one of the leading guitarists in contemporary jazz, and a featured artist in the annual Guitars and Saxes tour.
