For Immediate Release – June 2, 2014 – As their GRAMMY-nominated album, Summer Horns, nears its one-year anniversary, acclaimed saxophonists Dave Koz, Mindi Abair, Gerald Albright and Richard Elliot are preparing to head out on their second summer tour together. The cross-country headline run will kick off on June 26 at The Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, FL. See below for itinerary.

Released on June 11, 2013, Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns (Concord Records) spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Current Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and is currently in the Top 20. The album features imaginative takes on the classic hits of Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears and other brassy juggernauts of the 1960’s and ’70s. The Summer Horns’ smoking version of Sly and the Family Stone’s “Hot Fun In The Summertime” has topped the Mediabase Smooth A/C chart for the past two weeks while “Got To Get You Into My Life” spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Smooth Jazz chart and was nominated for a Soul Train award and “I Got You (I Feel Good)” ranked No. 1 on the Mediabase Smooth A/C chart for seven weeks.

In addition to playing songs from Summer Horns, the four saxophonists, backed by a stellar band, will perform the biggest hits from their individual catalogues on this year’s tour.

Summer Horns…evokes the fun, lighthearted spirit of summertime. The four demonstrate an obvious camaraderie here; they work seamlessly as a unit, then trade off, their rapport enhanced by arrangements from some top-notch veterans,” said JazzTimes. Rick Nowlin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette put The Summer Horns’ performance at Sewall Center atop his list of the best electric jazz concerts of 2013, observing, “Mr. Koz and fellow saxophonists Mindi Abair, Gerald Albright and Richard Elliot paid tribute to the great horn bands of the 1970s with Swiss-watch precision throughout. The jaw-dropping medley of songs at the close represented the most impressive display of arranging combined with showmanship that I’ve ever seen.”

Following their U.S. tour, the Summer Horns will perform on the Dave Koz and Friends at Sea cruise to Alaska, which will depart from Vancouver, BC on September 5. The cruise’s lineup also includes special guest Chris Botti plus Oleta Adams, Jonathan Butler, Bobby Caldwell, Vincent Ingala, Earl Klugh, Keb’ Mo’ and many more yet-to-be-announced artists.
