PAUL HARDCASTLE created the soundtrack to the mid 80’s. His iconic track 19 was an international mega hit (getting to number one in 13 countries) and with its hard-hitting lyrics and narrative about the Vietnam War, it captured the mood of a generation and created a sound for the era.
During the second half of the 1980s, Paul concentrated his efforts on studio work. He produced records for Ian Du...ry and the Blockheads, Phil Lynot and worked on remixes for a number of artists, including Barry White, D-Train, Five Star, Sinitta, Luther Vandros, and Change amongst others. Paul also remained active as a composer, writing original scores for several films and television projects, including a new theme song for the British TV series Top of the Pops (which reached the UK top 20) and the movie “Spiceworld”.
Twenty-five years on “the average age of a combat soldier is still 19” and Paul is still writing great impactful music. But until now it has all been in the USA, where Paul has had 10 Hit Albums and 9 number ones. Just last year, Billboard voted Paul the US Jazz Artist of the Year. Paul can even count Bill Clinton as one of his biggest fans, with Bill personally contacting Paul about how much he loved the Jazzmasters series.
Paul is now leading the charge into the digital distribution age with his own label, Hardcastle Music and a digital only release schedule that kicked off with Zero One on September 28th. Following this, Paul’s entire back catalogue was launched for the first time outside of the US and is now available in all good digital music stores.
ZERO ONE is the first in a series of albums Paul plans to release in the coming year showcasing some of the best talents of the moment through collaborations.
